What We’ve Been Watching
Mason: Marvel dropped the first three episodes of Ironheart last week. I thought, “cool, that means I’ll have, like, five more weeks of Ironheart.” I was good with that. I was looking forward to a nice eight episode season. to keep me going through July. Then I checked, because I am that kind of nerd, and I realized that there are only six episodes. I thought, “okay, I can deal with three more weeks and then no more.” But then this week Marvel dropped the last three episodes, I got myself a pizza, and like an idiot I binged them all and now I have no new Ironheart episodes. Do you know what this means?? Now I have to get dressed, go to a bookstore, find a witch (everybody knows witches hang out at bookstores), and give her some newt eyes in order to convince the spirits to make Kevin Fiegie greenlight a second season for next year. Subscribe if you haven’t so you can hear more of my thoughts on this series in August when it should have been over and my journey to enucleate newts and meet a witch.
Larissa: Dubbed the toughest season to date, Season 12 of Alone has thrown a substantial curveball plunking contestants in the dry hot climate of the desert in South Africa versus the cold wet environments in Canada, typically seen on the show. There have been a flurry of quick tapouts, including one contestant whose dehydration got so severe so quickly he had to be medically evacuated.
What We’re Excited To See
Larissa: Am I unduly excited to see Peter Dinklage in Dexter: Resurrection? Does Dexter Morgan love a good kill?
Mason: Back in May I kind of called that Adults would be worth watching? Specifically I thought that it could go either way but it had a lot of potential especially since it was copying the premise of one of the best American sitcoms, Living Single. Friends. This week I’m going to call my shot again, and say that Too Much is the forthcoming sitcom with boundless potential. The series star comes to us from Hacks and #1 Happy Family USA. TV legend Rhea Perlman is even slated to guest star in an episode. The writing staff even includes the Canadian icon Monica Heisey who previously worked on Barroness Von Sketch Show and Schit’s Creek, two of the funiest programs Canada has produced in the last decade. I’m feeling good about Too Much.
What We’re Talking About
Mason: After seeing The Trailer Park Boys: Jail and Ironheart I’ve been thinking about good villains, which of course is why I’m now thinking about Hordak, the main antagonist from— say it with me— She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Hordak is interesting because he goes against the grain of what you would expect. Hordak is a scary good leader by cartoon antagonist standards which makes the revelation in Season 2 that he’s the village idiot where he comes from terrifying. If you think all these She-Ra facts are terrifying, wait until you read our 100-subscriber special Prime Time! The faster you refer people to sub to us, the faster you can read it!
Larissa: Together, we can achieve 100 subscribers!! Refer your friends, share this post, and restack! For the honour of Greyskull!!

Born to Be Viral: The Real Lives of Kidfluencers (Hulu)

Ballard (Prime Video)
If memory serves, a few months ago we think we remarked that there seemed to be a lot of police dramas being released involving missing persons cases and departments. Fortunately, Ballard is here to mix things up a bit because it’s a police drama about a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective who… runs a… missing person… unit. Welp. You can find it on Prime Video this week.

Hosted by the bad boy Backstreet Boy, A.J. McLean, this US/ UK co-produced reality TV competition will have a group of musical contestants who must form bands without meeting face-to-face based only on chemistry and musical sound. After that, they are finally able to meet in person to try to make their fashion choices and band mesh together. Even though Liam Payne is a judge and mentor on this show, we feel like Building the Band will prove there is more than One Direction; these new groups could go in. Which group will win the glory? Find out on Netflix this week.
The Gringo Hunters/ Los Gringo Hunters (🇲🇽) (Netflix)
Americans are going to love this! This series is about an elite group of American police who track down criminals at the border, many of whom are Mexican, to bring them to justice or deport them when they escape justice in Mexico!! Wait, actually, this is a Mexican/ American co-produced drama about an elite group of Mexican federales who track down criminals, many of whom are Americans who crossed the border to escape justice, to deport them or bring them to justice in Mexico. If you were excited about this when it was pitched as an American show about chasing down Brown people, but not now, you might want to reflect on that. Too Much (🇬🇧) (Netflix)
In this UK/ US co-produced sitcom, a NYC workaholic decides to move to good ‘ol London town (in England) to give up on love and embrace her spinster era. However, that all changes when they meet Felix, who shows her that maybe, just maybe, she can love again. You can find Too Much on Netflix this week when it debuts.
Leviathan (🇯🇵) (Netflix)
No, this isn’t about that one misbegotten season of Supernatural. This is a new web anime series set in an alternate history version of World War One, based on a 2009 steampunk novel series by American icon Scott Westerfeld. If you were unaware, in Japan, a “web anime” is an animated series (anime) that is released in some way on the internet. This web anime is about two people, one of them in disguise, who find themselves on a bioengineered warship during the Great War. See how it turns out this week on Netflix.
7 Bears/ Les 7 Ours (🇫🇷) (Netflix)

Johanna Möller was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of their father and the attempted murder of their mother. In Sweden they’re known as “Arbogakvinnan.” The crime was called “Sommarstugemordet” or “The Summer House Murder” because the murder was commited at the victim’s summer home. Now Johanna Möller is breaking their silence and participating in this docuseries to talk about the crime they were convicted of. You can check it out on Viaplay as it leaves the shores of Sweden and crosses the Atlantic.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Hulu)
For Season 17, the gang starts with another crossover with Abbot Elementary before continuing with their regular hijinks. It’s going to debut on FXX, but episodes land on Hulu the next day.

This docuseries not only examines the crime committed by Bryan Christopher Kohberger (the first of its kind in Moscow, ID, specifically, since 2015), but also the investigation and Kohberger’s capture and confession. This week, you can call up your mom, your sister, or your girlies and watch this true crime docuseries when it drops on Prime Video.
Rage/ Furia (🇪🇸) (HBO Max)
Coming straight from Madrid, this show will push its protagonists (a group of five women) to extreme rage. Why? To what end? We couldn’t tell you. But you can check out the two-episode premier on HBO and its identity-confused streaming service currently named HBO Max this week.
The Institute (MGM+)
You might not be aware that the prolific horror writer and American icon Stephen King has a son named Joe. Now, before you ask, we are not Joe King, but he is. Suffice it to say that the (literal) King of American horror and idyllic descriptions of suburban Maine is getting another adaptation of his oeuvre in this series based on his 2019 supernatural horror “The Institute” about a young boy who finds himself at a mysterious institute filled with other children who have unusual abilities as he does, and none of them know how they got there. Turn on MGM+ to find this new show when it premieres later this week.
Love Island: Beyond the Villa (Peacock)
This new reality TV series brings back contestants from Season 6 of Love Island USA to catch up with the new couples and see how they’re adjusting to their sudden fame and the changes in their lives. New To Cable
July 7th to July 13
Bachelor in Paradise (ABC)
Season 10 of this reality TV dating show returns, where fan-favourite cast members from previous Bachelor and Bachelorette shows come to Costa Rica for a second or third chance to find love instead of resolving the issues that prevent them from finding a committed relationship in therapy.
Survival Mode (NBC)
Debuting first on NBC this week, this docuseries explores the harrowing stories of real people who were caught in natural disasters and other high-stakes danger, and their loved ones who waited with bated breath for their return.
Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty (🇬🇧) (PBS)
Seemingly part docuseries and part dramatic retelling, this docuseries about three of the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles greatest Renaissance painters, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael, follows these three greats through their rivalry in interesting times. You can see this UK-produced series on PBS this week.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FXX)
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia series mainstay Rob McElhennydhkgjajngkmgosalgi has recently changed his name to Rob Mac because apparently nobody can say his last name, “Mchujdfkjweijwgfogje673hagftdify” correctly. It looks like Season 17 will include a lot of actors with difficult-to-pronounce last names, too, like Charlie “Day,” Danny “DiVito,” Kaitlin “Olsen,” and Glen “Howerton.” After you see the season debut on FXX this week please type these names in the comments phonetically because we can’t figure out how to say them.
Celebrity IOU (HGTV)
So it looks like Italian/ Canadian/ American and American icons Joel McHale and Rachel Brosnahan are getting home renovations this season on Celebrity IOU. You can see their episodes sometime after Season 10 debuts this week on HGTV.
Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind/ Plastic Surgery Rewind (🇨🇦) (E!)
Plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow and psychologist Dr. Spirit team up to talk to people who have had botched plastic surgery procedures to see if they want to reverse them and embrace their natural beauty. You can find it in the most excited TV network, E!
Big Brother (CBS)
With Season 27 fast approaching, one of the shows that spawned our modern obsession with reality TV competitions, Big Brother, fills another house with contestants who forego most of their expectations for privacy as they compete against each other in challenges while living together to win $500,000 (USD). Find it on CBS when it debuts this week.
Celebrity Family Feud (ABC)
A game show that’s mostly just market research, with multiple versions of itself that by this point is just an ouroboros of opinion polls, Celebrity Family Feud is now in its twelfth season. Pitched as a show where the families of celebrities face off against each other to guess the answers to opinion polls, it also sometimes features the casts of two shows. Like the Season 6 episode where the cast of Black-ish and the cast of The Goldbergs went toe-to-toe. Host Steve Harvey, who you might recognize if you’ve seen any version of Family Feud for the past fifteen years, returns. You can see the high-stakes game show this week on ABC. The American ABC.
Press Your Luck (ABC)
In Press Your Luck, contestants answer trivia questions for points and prizes and spin a wheel filled with prizes and… fortunes… while trying to avoid the “whammy” spot which could bankrupt their score. Now, you might watch this series returning to ABC for its seventh season, see that it’s a reboot from the 1980s and think that nothing has changed in forty-some years. We say no. In the 1980s police dramas were popular on TV, we were quietly waiting for Season 2 of Matlock, & the game show Press Your Luck was going strong… technology is moving at an ever faster rate… there was a crushing economic recession caused by conservative policies… partisan politics were at an all-time high… we recently discovered a new devastating virus that many thought the government didn’t respond to as well as they should have… trust in government is at an all-time low… The news is filled with stories of corruption… What year is it again??
Electric Bloom (Disney Channel)
Disney has mastered so-called “cross-quadrant IP,” or rather, intellectual property that crosses mediums to fit into the products and services it sells. Take Hannah Montana as an example. It was a TV show that lasted for five years, and it also launched the career of a singer/ songwriter. Right there we have a TV show (& crossover episodes with other shows), movies, music albums, and concert tours. Much like a financial portfolio media companies like diversified assets. Electric Bloom could be the next example of this because its a Disney Channel show about a future world famous band (Electric Bloom) recounting the story of how they met and their influences starting way back in middle school. Much like Hannah Montana, The Cheetah Girls, and similar shows, you should expect this to be a tween-aged sitcom that will try to milk albums/ music streams, concert tours, and more from it.
Chasing the West (HGTV)
The Property Brothers add to their extensive resumes this week not by giving more people home renovations, but by dipping into their ranch raised history to show people what its like to be ranchers across Texas, Arizona, and California. You can see these brothers put your husband or boyfriend to shame (again) this week on HGTV.
Back to the Frontier (Magnolia Network)
This reality TV competition seems like its part Survivor and part Anne of Green Gables. Contestants of this new series from Chip and Joanna Gains, two of the hottest home renovation show hosts who don’t share parents or blood, will be asked to live like 1800s era homesteaders. Will there be horsies? Find out on HBO Max and the Magnolia Network this week.
Lie Detector: Truth or Deception (A&E)
Usually we try to use anywhere from two to five sources to verify some basic details about the shows we list here in the TV Guide. We do this to make sure that all the information is correct. This one is unique in that we haven’t been able to find it in some of the highest rated sources we have and we’ve checked back multiple times prior to publishing. What we’ve been able to find is that this is a docuseries hosted by Tony Harris where people suspected or convicted of crimes submit to a polygraph (lie detector) test to try to clear their name. It’s important to note, however, that polygraphs don’t measure a subject’s truthfulness. Instead they measure blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, and sweating. If you think about it for longer than a moment you might realize that in a high-pressure or intense situation like an interrogation about a murder there might be some reason for an innocent person’s blood pressure, heart rate, and resperation to change, and a reason why they might sweat. You might also realize that it’s very possible to learn to control these things in high stress environments, or that a sociopath might not react as expected. This is why polygraph results are not admissable evidence. But in many cases, the lore and lies surrounding these tests are enough to make guilty people confess and confessions are admissable. You can get caught up in the drama this week on A&E.
Dexter: Resurrection (Showtime)
There is a book series that the Dexter TV franchise is based on, however the related TV shows are only based on the first book in that series, “Darkly Dreaming Dexter.” The reason that this grounded TV franchise does that is probably because in the threequel book, “Dexter in the Dark,” we find out that Dexter’s Dark Passenger is actually a melevolent spirit that is inhabiting him, and that’s a bit of a drastic genre shift three-eighths of the way through the series. This new sequel series following Dexter: New Blood has Dexter Morgan awaking from a coma (after being shot in the chest) and going to New York to try to make things right with his son. It will feature a lot of returning faces, like John Lithgow and also new stars like Peter Dinklage and Uma Thurmon. You can see who dies next on Showtime this week.
Rage/ Furia (🇪🇸) (HBO)
This Spanish series from Spain follows a group of people who will be pushed to their limits in rage-inducing situations. It’s not every day that HBO invests in TV shows from other countries so that alone makes this very interesting. You can see how it turns out this week.
Buried in the Backyard (Oxygen)
Returning for its sixth season, Buried in the Backyard is a docuseries that profiles true crime stories where dead bodies are found in altogether expected places— like in people’s backyards. You can grow increasingly more dismayed at the sheer number of examples of this true crime nieche this week on the Oxygen Network.
Live Aid: When Rock ’n’ Roll Took on the World (CNN)
This four episode docuseries will examine the 1985 Live Aid concert and its effect through interviews with musicians, singers, and politicians. You can find it debuting on CNN this week on the fortieth aniversary of the event, July 13th.
Billionaire Boys Club (CNN)
Part docuseries and part historical reenactment, this docuseries examines California’s so-called Billionaire Boys Club, a social and investing club founded by trust fund twenty-something men with a knack for Ponzi schemes. You can see the drama unfold this week on CNN.
Kings Court (Bravo)
Spinning off from the series Queens Court, this reality TV dating competiction follows three celibrities: an NBA all-star, a WWE legend, and a super model as they try to find the woman of their dreams among twenty-one romantic hopefuls. Find it on Bravo this week.
Madame Blanc sounds like my mom's dream series, wow
I keep seeing Too Much clips everywhere! It definitely seems to be getting all the hype. I can't wait to watch it
