What We’ve Been Watching
Larissa: Taylor Swift is still dumbfounded that she was booed at the beginning of the game as the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX.
Mason: Invincible is three episodes in, and I’m enthralled (and disgusted).
What We’re Excited To See
Larissa: I will definitely be tuning into the premiere of Season 3 of White Lotus! I love how Mike White has created an anthology series with a different theme and a different cast for each season. Season 1 was money, season 2 was lust. Season 3 will apparently be taking a darker turn this year, centring around death. Set in Thailand and apparently incorporating some Eastern religious concepts into the theme, I’m interested to see what White does with his Lotus this season!
Mason: The great thing about this job is we’re learning about shows that algorithms wouldn’t otherwise show us. That said, I’m excited to jump into The Exchange on Netflix.
What We’re Talking About
Mason and Larissa: We’re really excited! We’ve been asked to collaborate with
! We’re hard at work on this collaboration and stepping into the world of film for their March issue!New To Streaming
February 10th to February 16th
Surviving Black Hawk Down (Netflix)
Do you remember the movie Black Hawk Down? Did you see it? If you didn’t know that movie is based on a true story about an event in a Middle Eastern conflict in 1993 that was written about in at least one book, “Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War,” which was adapted into a screenplay by Transformers: The Last Knight writer Ken Nolan, which was directed by Alien director Ridley Scott. Anyway, this Netflix docuseries is about that event, which was turned into a movie that made $81,000,000 in 1999 ($152,513,859.54 in 2024 dollars).
Murdoch Mysteries (Acorn TV)
Welcome to the frozen content section, Sofa Taters! That’s right, here we have some genuine, bona fide Canadian content coming to Acorn TV (also available through a subscription through Prime Video. If that’s not enough of a selling point for you, though, and it doesn’t sound like a mystery about media mogul Rupert Murdoch to get you to drop in, we want you to know this is a detective mystery series about fictional detective William Murdoch who solves crimes and mysteries with unheard, new, and revolutionary techniques for his time (the 1890s) like “trace evidence” and “fingerprints.” And just so you know, fingerprinting was first used by the police in 1892, and trace evidence originated in the 1900s. Catch Season 19 this week to ignore some of the anachronisms.
Muslim Matchmaker (Hulu)
This new dating reality show follows Muslim Americans as they navigate religious and cultural norms to find love. This show debuts its first season this week.
Unconventional (Revry)
This American comedy is about a brother and sister living a less-than-traditionally conventional life in the USA as they each try to build their families. It is debuting this week on the little-known specialty streaming service Revry. Revry Prides itself on collecting and producing a literal rainbow of content that usually doesn’t get a lot of exposure on conventional networks, with only minimal exceptions. If you like out-loud entertainment from a streaming network made for the Friends Of Dorthey, Revry is free with ads or $6.99/ month ($4.99/ month annually). The ad-supported tier doesn’t require an account, either for all those who might bi curious. Oh, was that a typo?
Bia & Victor: Love of My Life/ Amor da Minha Vida (Hulu)
Season 2 of this romantic Hulu series from Brazil about best friends who don’t realize they’re soulmates hits this week.
Harlem Ice (Disney+)
This new docuseries from Disney+, whose parent company (The Walt Disney Company) routinely puts the words “on ice” after their most popular franchises, follows a group of kids in Harlem in New York City as they train in ice skating and prepare for competitions.
Dog Days Out (Netflix)
Netflix is bringing us this cute little cartoon for children about the shenanigans a puppy and their friends get up to when left alone by their people. Check out Season 1 with your kids for a chance at 20 minutes of quiet.
The Exchange/ البورصة/ Albursa (Netflix)
Set in Kuwait in the 1980s, this series (based on true events) follows some women as they start working in the Kuwaiti Stock Exchange for their benefit and to break up the entrenched boys’ club in the financial sector. Debuting in the 2023 Season 2 of this series drops this week after a long delay. With an audience score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, this series has something to offer viewers.
Who Shot Otto Mueller?/ Kes tappis Otto Mülleri? (Viaplay)
This Eastonian locked-room mystery miniseries about the former Soviet/ Eastonian wrestler, Otto Mueller, and his murder in his home on his 65th birthday, lands on the Nordic streaming service Viaplay. Curiously, we couldn’t find a lot of information about him online. Anyone still reeling from the Death And Other Details cancellation might want to check this out.
Yellowjackets (Paramount+)
Season 3 of this survival/ mystery/ thriller series about a talented all-girl group of high school soccer players who survived a crash landing in the Canadian wilderness debuts on Paramount+ on the day everyone recognizes as being about secrets and trauma: Valentine’s Day! Or is that just Mason?
SNL50: The Homecoming Concert (Peacock)
Peacock brings us this special event concert to celebrate Saturday Night Live’s 50th season with the likes of Arcade Fire, The B-52’s, The Backstreet Boys, Bad Bunny, David Byrne, Brandi Carlile, Robyn (the “Show Me Love” hitmaker), Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Devo, the Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Millenial songstress Brittany Howard, Post Malone, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Mumford & Sons, Bonnie Raitt, Jelly Roll, and, clearly, the biggest stars of the whole lineup: The Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Love Is Blind (Netflix)
Season 8 of the popular Netflix dating reality show drops this week so we can all ponder why a collection of the most attractive 24-to-39-year-olds Netflix can find in the United States who assumably have a workout routine that would make Jack LaLanne drool can’t find a stable relationship, or if those of us who haven’t been called an adonis should try using the Gale–Shapley algorithm in our own dating life, as Netflix does for this show.
I Am Married… But!/ Tong Hua Gu Shi Xia Ji/ 童話故事下集 (Netflix)
Honestly, when we first heard the title of this series we assumed it would be a reality show in a similar vein to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but then we scrolled down literally an inch and saw that it’s actually a Taiwanese comedy series about two people who get caught up in a whirlwind romance and get married then must navigate their new life together. It sounds a lot like Dharma And Greg in Mandarin. But, you know, Dharma And Greg got five years out of that premise.
Valeria (Netflix)
This sexy Spanish drama is about four friends in Madrid who know what they want: desire, sex, love, and intimacy. The final season drops on Netflix this week.
Melo Movie/ 멜로무비 (Netflix)
This new series from Best Korea is about a jaded film critic and a movie director who reconnect after a soured romance. Can love find a way?
Goldie (Apple TV+)
In this brand-new series from Apple TV+, Goldie, voiced by Grey Griffin, is a giant little girl (like she towers over the trees) who goes on adventures with her friends, teaching people about the many things that make them unique. Griffin herself has highlighted this show’s message of acceptance and self-love and says that it’s not meant to appeal to anyone with certain beliefs who might be having a moment politically now.
BAFTA Film Awards (BritBox)
Officially called the EE BAFTA Film Awards (we haven’t the foggiest as to why), this award show honours the best movies of any national origin to feature on British movie screens. David Tennant returns as host, and reportedly, Catherine and William, the Prince and Princess of Wales, managed to peg this event into their schedule and will be in attendance. Another notable fact is that this is the first major film, TV, or music award show we’ve been keeping track of to not be taking place within half an hour of an ongoing ecological disaster that is displacing a lot of people.

February 10th to February 16th
Extracted (Fox)

The network that made California by Phantom Planet live rent-free in our heads, The CW, counts down to their presentation of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race.
Have I Got News for You (CNN)
It seems like CNN is reacting to being called a joke by Fox News and OAN because they’re producing a comedy news show starring Roy Wood Jr, Amber Ruffin, and Michael Ian Black. Wook Jr. and Ruffin were also cast members of a little comedy news show you probably haven’t heard of called The Daily Show, and Michael Ian Black is a comedian, writer, and actor who guest-starred on Disney’s animated Hercules TV series.
The Equalizer (CBS)
CBS premieres season 4 of this series starring Living Single star Queen Latifah about a woman with a “particular set of skills” who helps people with nowhere else to turn this week.
Watson (CBS)
No, it’s not deja vu, CBS has just decided to move Watson, which debuted earlier this month, to a new day and time. Going forward, this will be its regular slot. Networks do this sometimes to try to increase viewership, accommodate special events that could run long, or try to draw viewers from a different network who might have watched something else. Network executives’ careers are built and destroyed by scheduling shows. Should we announce when shows shuffle around like this? Let us know below!
The Simpsons (Fox)
The animated show that needs no introduction or synopsis returns for Season 36 on Fox.
Family Guy (Fox)
Season 23 of Family Guy, the brainchild of series creator and passionate nerd Seth McFarland (the same creator of American Dad and The Orville), comes to Fox this week.
The Great North (Fox)
Judging from the title of this series from the creators of Bob’s Burgers, you might assume it’s Canadian or set in Canada. It’s not. Season 5 of this Alaska-set animated comedy starring Nick Offerman as the patriarch of a weird family debuts this week.
Grimsburg (Fox)
Season 2 of this animated comedy starring Jon Hamm as the best detective in the titular Grimsburg, trying to solve all the crimes while being unable to solve the mystery of his broken marriage, hits Fox.

90 Day Fiancé (TLC)
Season 11 of this reality TV show about how Stella Got Her Groove Back and possibly could commit immigration fraud lands on TLC starting this week.
90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk (TLC)
This show is either debuting season 11 or season 29, depending on the source we consult, but this reaction series, where past 90 Day Fiancé contestants talk about episodes of 90 Day Fiancé, starts this week on TLC.
WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats) (A&E)
This reality TV competition series follows WWE hopefuls competing for a contract with the American wrestling brand known for attracting an all-male fan base with oiled-up muscular men in tights and swimwear who are paid to grab each other and try to get someone to submit to them on their back.
